Hello. Welcome to the first post of 2017 on the Secrets to Success. At the turn of the new year we usually come across the phrase “New Year, New Me” on social media (and also the “Here comes the New Year New Me BS" memes… lol). But what does this actually mean?
The start of a new year presents an opportunity to take on the year with a clean slate and fresh list of goals. A positive outlook on how we can improve ourselves and live happy. However, it is more than just a mantra to say in January and revert back to our old/comfortable ways of life. To make change happen, we have to have accountability for ourselves.
As Obama said, “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change we seek."
Take active steps to achieve the new year goals you aspire to:
- start by writing them down in a diary/phone/tablet
- read them each morning before you start the day to keep them in your active thought
- contribute towards them every day/week (depending on goal type professional vs. leisure)
- read them before you go to sleep to keep motivated to wake up before the alarm next morning
“Wake up determined. Go to bed satisfied."
